Douglas College

An Introduction to Academic Research

This tutorial will take approximately 45 minutes to complete and will introduce you to two important resources:

  • The Library Catalogue, where you'll find books, ebooks, DVDs and CDs in the Douglas College Library, as well as online resources
  • Academic Search Complete, a database that will help you find journal and magazine articles on your topic, many of which will be available online.

At the end of this exercise, a copy of your completed assignment will automatically be emailed to the address you provide us with on the next page. If your instructor requires proof that you have completed this exercise, you may either print the message or forward it to his/her email address. When you are certain that your instructor has received a copy, you can delete the message.

Please Note:

  • You must complete this exercise in one session. You cannot stop in the middle and pick up where you left off later.
  • Some actions in the assignment will cause a new tab or window to open. To continue with the tutorial, you'll need to close them.
  • Please do not close the window displaying the tutorial instructions or you will have to start over again.

The Douglas College Library acknowledges the generosity and expertise of Colleen Bell (University of the Fraser Valley) in the creation of this tutorial.
